Dear all,

4’s Promotion
After a weeks wait, Dave Gladstone’s 4th X1 received the news that they had won promotion to the Surrey Championship 4th X1 Premier Division as Oxted could only secure a losing draw with Old Ruts. Congratulations to Dave and the other 35 players who helped achieve this. Dave has sent in a season report, which is attached.

 ————————————————————-

A bitterly disappointing day saw the V’s fail to chase down 179 finishing on 150 all out. After winning the toss and putting 9 man Blackheath in, we restricted them to 179 off 40 overs with Gladstone (8-1-21-2) and Knapp (5-26-2) the pick of the bowlers. There was some fine fielding including two excellent catches from Willmott and Thomas and a rare run out from the captain and keeper Henderson. We lost early wickets against disciplined bowling but Gladstone (74) and Johnston (30) put on a hundred for the fourth wicket and it looked as if we might get home. The skipper scratched about for far too long and left the young strokeplayers too much to do but it was the loss of Gladstone to a run-out that cost us the game. Rory Thomas put bat to ball for a quick 14 but it was not to be. (L Johnston)
