Midweek SMS – 11 September 2014

Dear all,

Unfortunately the 1st XI fell short of making it three promotions in consecutive weeks as they fell 28 runs short and ended level on points with Ashford (who went up on the basis of more winning draws). Still, a fantastic effort and we’ll be sure to have another crack next season. Well, the league season is over for the senior men’s sides, but there are still friendly fixtures for the next couple of weeks. This Saturday even features some living legends of the Club in Mark “Blob” Eldridge, Paul “Crutts” Cruttwell and Peter “Coach/Grizz/Uncle Phil/Chef from South Park” Edwards all donning their whites. So come down and enjoy the sunshine and the questionable standard of cricket…

1st XI League position – 3rd / 10

2nd XI

2nd XI League position – 4th / 10

3rd XI
Last game of the season, nothing to play for apart from pride. Everyone was looking forward to it apart from a boozed up Ryan who decided to roll down the hill and stay there to be target practice, a new drill for next season. Lost the toss and 9 man Addiscombe decided to bat. After a few dropped catches and close calls, we soon rattled through them for 106. Opening pair of Hendo and Kash and the usual 50 run partnership. Hendo got bowled and in came Badger for his last game at the club, and was given out LBW. The captain promoted to number 4 set about finishing the game quickly with Kash. After given tap from their opening bowler, captain fantastic dispatched him for back to back 4s. Kash finished the game with 3 huge 6s and that was the game done with. Drinks aplenty as per usual and a good end to a great season. Special thanks to Sharad, Luke, Chris Sowton, Luke Harris and Matt Clark for taking on captaincy at some point during the season. (S Mehta)
3rd XI League position – 1st / 10

4th XI
4th XI League position – 1st / 8

5th XI
5th XI League position – 10th / 10

6th XI
Lost by 21 runs
The Roebucks 161ao (34.3) / SMCC 140ao (33)
Highlights: Cockar 10-0-29-4, Thomas 6-1-21-4 & 74
6th XI League position – 4th / 9

Friendly XI
Won by 3 wickets
Kingstonian 160ao (32.2) / SMCC 161-7 (31.5)
A pleasant enough game of cricket with a few stand out performances from Moazzam for Kingstoninas with his elegant 79 runs and a similar effort by Sahil Lodha (52) for SMCC. A good enough innings for Jack Hughes to be circling like an enormous hipster vulture after the young 5 trained tyro’s contact details. A run of the mill Davis 32 not out brought the curtain down on a 3 wicket victory ably supported by Mehta junior showing that the batting gene is recessive in the Mehat family. Good spells of bowling from Patel, Henly, Lodha were the other highlights. (L Johnston)
