Midweek SMS – 10.05.2012

Dear all,

The midweek SMS (Streatham & Marlborough Sweep) is back! For those new members, this is a weekly update of news, fixtures and results to keep you in the loop with what’s going on at Streatham & Marlborough Cricket Club. Straight on with the news….
———————————————————————————————————
Scorer – 1st X1
The 1st X1 need a regular scorer to avoid being fined by the league – if anyone is available to assist, please get in touch with me asap. The club is willing to offer a small payment to the right person. We are in particular need for the next 5 weekends as may have someone lined up after that.

Ladies 1st Game
This weekend sees the first competitive outdoor game for the ladies team and a major landmark in their history. Well done to all involved in getting to this point after a number of years. Their game is at home on Sunday at 10am – please try and come along to support them.

Old Kit?
RAM Cricket, a Surrey base cricket company, are arranging to send cricket gear to Africa, India, Pakistan & Sri Lanka. If you have any old Cricket Balls, Cricket Shirts, Bats, Pads, Gloves, Shoes, etc, send them to Ram and they will send them to where they will be greatly appreciated.

Chance to go appear on TV – Alan Carr’s Summer Spectacular
I’ve been contacted by a researcher looking for a cricket team to join their studio show on 6th June. The show has a summer theme throughout, they are hoping the cricket team will be dressed in white cricket gear and would be up for being part of our audience and summer parade. There will be lots of celebrities, free drinks, food, and a fun party atmosphere. Filming takes place in central london and you will be needed for the afternoon rehearsals for evening record. It will be a great fun night out- meeting Alan, other celebrities and joining in with the massive summer special for channel four. Must be 18+ and able to travel into London. If you’re interested, get your team together and contact this guy direct… ckearsey@openmike.co.uk

Last weekends results:
Saturday

Cancelled – rain
1st X1 League position – 5th / 9
————————————————————-
Lost – the rain did for 2’s, but in a different way as it allowed their opposition, Pyrford, to field a few regular first X1 players who had their own game cancelled. Two of these players did the damage after Corns and Mehta reduced Pyrford to 28-4. The Pyrford batting was held together by Hedges, who hit 80 of his teams total of 141. Eldridge (Snr) taking 4 wickets, whilst Corns and Mehta both returned 2 wickets for not many. SMCC soon found themselves in trouble as Hope (5-11) reduced the 2’s to 16-5. Sowton hit a spirited 50, but SMCC fell short on 116.
2nd X1 League position – 7th / 10

Cancelled – rain
3rd X1 League position – 8th / 18

Cancelled – rain
4th X1 League Position – 3rd / 8

I was at the Cup Final watching Chelsea deservedly beat Liverpool despite desperate appeals by that well known sportsman Suarez. Unfortunately that meant leaving my comrades to a cold and miserable defeat to Dulwich. I am told that Hendo and Adam Goodyear batted well but no one else was able to hang around with them and we were al out for 65. I am told that Rory Thomas and Andrew Henderson bowled well at the top and reduced Dulwich to not many for 3. It is reported that everyone fielded well but Jim Roebuck and Lewis Knapp were outstanding. Nevermind – we shall do better and at least it means I might get my place back? Many thanks to the boys for soldiering on and allowing me to see the mighty Blues win their 7th FA Cup. Many thanks to Barrington for taking over the irksome captaincy duties. Next week at home at our new home Mayow Park Sydenham. (L Johnston)
